Speaker Dennis Hastert

J. Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, was the honored guest and speaker at a fundraiser held at the Bill and Bea Beddor residence near Victoria on Friday evening, June 22nd, 2001.  Congressman Mark Kennedy, Minnesota's U.S. Representative for the Second District, and approximately 70 other invited guests were in attendance.  Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres began at 6 p.m. with a roundtable discussion from 7 to 8 p.m.  Join us, won't you?

Speaker Hastert, an Illinois Republican, normally works behind the scenes in Washington, D.C., but for one hour he stood before the intimate Minnesota group and responded to questions with ease and graciousness.  Are those the eyes of hero-worship in Minnesota Congressman Kennedy?

Hi, Mary Meuwissen, Mayor of Victoria.  Thank you for extending your parents' invitation to me.

The Beddors, gracious hosts for the evening, are flanked here by Congressman Kennedy and Speaker Hastert.  Thank you, Bill and Bea, for your hospitality.

After cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the deck and by the pool, there were conversations and dining specialties in the dance hall.

Mayor Mary and her dad pose between the high ranking conservatives.  Did you know that Speaker Hastert used to be a high school wrestling coach?  Where is Jesse the Body?

These are the Beddor Brothers, Frank (left) and Bill (right).  They are not twins, but they are both involved in the printing business.

Hello, Frank and Marilyn Beddor.  It was nice to meet you.

Hello, Jim Fox.  How fun to discover you are married to a Buysse.  Are you sure you weren't brought up in Minneota, Minnesota?

"Thank you, Mr. And Mrs. Beddor, ladies and gentlemen …"

Hello, Mayor Mary.  Hello, Debbie Kennedy, wife of the Congressman.  It simply cannot be true that blonds have more fun! Yours Truly would know.

Caught in the middle, and I don't even care.

The End

Love, Sue
